Projekat “Obala Ulcinja bez plastike”
The NGO Green life is implementing the project “Ulcinj coast without plastic” which aims to improve the waste management system and reduce the use of disposable plastic on the Long beach and Ada Bojana in Ulcinj. The project is aimed towards the local population of Ulcinj municipality, tourists, children, users and owners of beaches, restaurants, hotels and houses on the Bojana river etc.
This project is designed as a set of activities supported by NGOs that are active in this field and institutions, including the municipality of Ulcinj, the Utility Company and PE Morsko dobro. The activities will be carried out in a coordinated manner, with the aim of reducing the use of disposable plastic on the Long beach and Ada Bojana.
The goal of the project will be achieved through activities distributed in two commision arrangements. Collection of waste and recyclable materials on Long beach and Ada Bojana will be achieved through a series of activities that include a promotional and educational campaigns, development of the concept of waste container placement and frequency of its’ collection, construction of a container niche, installation of wire mesh containers and, if useful, procurement of a press for baling PET bottles, trainings for communal police and communal inspection, awareness raising activities and cleaning activities and organization of environmental patrols. On the other hand, the project will support the establishment of a temporary storage facility in the Long beach hinterland through the cleaning of illegal landfills, assessment of the origin and quality of waste on those localities, deciding on the short term location of temporary storage unit and its establishment.
The project is implemented through the partnership of the following NGOs: NGO Green Life, Zero Waste Montenegro, Dr Martin Schneider Jacoby Association, Ada Bojana Association, NGO Green step, Regional Development Agency Ulcinj Business Association as well as the Municipality of Ulcinj, EP Morsko dobro and Utility Company Ulcinj.
The project has two main components and related activities and will be implemented in the period from June 2020 to September 2021 (16 months). The activities of this project are supported by the German Organization for Development Cooperation (GIZ) within the project “Integrated Waste Management and Prevention of Marine Waste in the Western Balkans (MLP)” which is financially supported by the German Ministry of Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ).
