Project “Long beach without plastic“
The project “Long beach without plastic” was implemented with the aim of raising awareness of the public and institutions about the sources and consequences of plastic pollution. We implemented project activities with a focus on several groups: school-age children, tourists and institutions.
In order to make local and national governments aware of the problem of plastic pollution, we documented the problem of waste management by compiling an expert report on 22 illegal landfills in the hinterland of Long beach. We presented this report to the representatives of the institutions at the meeting that resulted in cleaning of three locations with illegal landfills as well as agreements on future joint activities in this area.
Educational workshops were intended for school-age children. We wanted to help them increase sensibility for avoiding the creation of plastic waste and including those habits in everyday life.. We presented the negative impacts of using disposable plastic and explained it by making an example of how waste negatively affects the environment.
We organized educational events on the beaches with the aim of raising awareness about this topic and explaining to each visitor how important their attitude towards this issue is.t.. Also, we presented some possibilities of how to be more eco-friendly.
We have placed educational boards that contain warning and explaination of why disposable plastic should be avoided and examples for replacement of plastic objects with more eco-friendly ones. These educational board are located on three beaches along the Long beach in Ulcinj.
The “Long beach without plastic” project was supported by the Prince Albert II Foundation of Monaco through Beyond Plastic Med (Bemed) initiative.
